Hroof حروف
(2019) Mixed media Horouf is a telepathy between the past and the present, as if it were a dialogue between two generations. Horouf means letters in Arabic. The artwork made the longing for the past, history and communication something tangible. It creates a different dialogue between visitors to know what the letters are about. And they question where it comes from and learn how feelings can come from the small details around us. The small geometrical pieces are the letters coming from the Manjour located in Rawasheen Al-Balad in Historic Jeddah. A screen made of wood and fabric that are intended to be touched by people and gusted by the wind. From one side, the wood is visible, and from the opposite side the light comes in from between the patterns of the wood. Exhibited at Center for Art and Public Life, San Francisco, CA, USA.
